Smoothie recipes often contain large amounts of sugar, and even if it's natural fruit sugars, when blended in particular, they spike the blood sugar too high for my recommendations. I prefer low sugar smoothies either made with moderate amounts of fruits or using, protein powder or vegetables instead of fruit along with fiber and fats, herbs and spices. Here are a few ideas >
Low sugar smoothie recipes
Piña Colada
- 1/2 cup filtered water
- 1/2 cup full fat coconut milk
- 1 cup frozen pineapple
- 1 small piece fresh ginger , approx 1 teaspoon minced or chopped
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon fresh mint
- 1/2 dropperful chlorophyll (optional)
- squeeze of fresh lime juice (optional)
Carrot-Orange
- 1-1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 orange, peeled
- 1/3 cup grated carrot
- 1 tablespoon flax seeds
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean powder
- 1 scoop collagen powder
- 1/4 cup frozen cauliflower
- 1 small piece fresh turmeric or 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder (optional)
Berry-Greens
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup frozen mixed berries
- small handful of spinach
- small handful cilantro
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 teaspoon chlorella powder
- 1/4 avocado
- 1/2 cup grated zucchini (optional)
Instructions: For each recipe, add all of the ingredients to a blender and blend until creamy. Adjust liquid amount as needed.
